Maryland Association for Adult Community and Continuing Education (MAACCE) Annual Spring Conference

  • Radisson Hotel North Baltimore Timonium, MD (map)

Margaret Patterson will be presenting "The Ladder of Learning Viewed from PIAAC Survey Data".
New large-scale data from the international PIAAC Survey reveal much about US adult learners. Find out about demographics and assessed skill levels of adults transitioning to postsecondary learning, with emphasis on those not completing high school. Who managed to “climb the ladder of learning” – and who didn’t? What motivated them? What barriers did they face? The session will end with a recruitment simulation using the findings.

Kyo Sin Kang and Emily Pawlowski (AIR) will be presenting "A Look at Low-Skilled Adults in the U.S.: Results from the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC)"
The 2012 Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is a large-scale international assessment of cognitive skills. This session will provide the most current detailed data on U.S. adults who are low-skilled in literacy, numeracy, and digital problem-solving, using results from PIAAC. Attributes that will be examined include demographic, educational, and workforce characteristics. An introduction to Education & Skills Online, designed to assess individuals’ skills based on PIAAC measures, will also be provided.
