National Council for Workforce Education Annual Conference

  • Omni Hotel - Pittsburgh, PA Pittsburgh, PA (map)

Phyllis Cummins' presentation will provide an overview of key findings in the United States from the OECD survey of adult skills (i.e., Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC)) with regard to literacy, numeracy, and problem solving skills. In addition, outcomes for U.S. residents aged 45 to 65 included in PIAAC who participated in varying types of adult education and training will be examined. Outcomes that will be analyzed include labor force participation rates, employment status, and income. Gaining a better understanding of how adults benefit from varying types and intensities of education and training at older ages is important from both a policy and practice perspective.
